Bruises and MMA are synonymous. Fighters need to know the steps for caring for bruises if you plan to have a long career in MMA. There are a few basics steps to managing and minimizing the potential for any further bruising once the trauma has been inflicted.
Cool the Bruise Down
If possible, the first steps to care for any bruise should be to apply a cold compress or cold ice to the bruise and elevate the bruise above the heart. This elevation will keep blood from concentrating to the bruised area and making it worse; protect the skin by using a cloth with the cold compress.
Heating up to Recovery
After resting and applying cold for a few days, it is time to take a break and change the routine. Apply heat to the area to improve the circulation, gentle pressure or light massaging will also help improve circulation and healing the bruised area.
Understanding how to care for your MMA bruises will make training and recovery much easier between fights. Using this knowledge will make you a better fighter as well.
